Cargo Bike Delivery Scheme

A dozen or so volunteers provide a FREE delivery and collection service on our environmentally friendly cargo bike within a cyclable distance of central Wellington. The service operates on market days between 10am and 2pm (midday on Saturday) on behalf of our market and independent high street traders as well as shoppers. The service can be requested by those needing items collecting from their home and delivered elsewhere in our town. (e.g. Donations to a specific charity shop)

If you or anyone you know would benefit from this scheme, they can contact the duty volunteer during operating hours on 07398 136120 by phone or WhatsApp message.

Wellington Town Council purchased a Tern e-cargo bike in the summer of 2023 to allow the free delivery scheme, started as a pilot in October 2022, to continue as a regular service.

The EBike provided by WTC has been given the name NODDY – after a bird species in the Tern family!

Noddy needs to be kept busy and the team of volunteers are eager to provide this FREE service with a smile, especially to those who cannot get out for whatever reason and are in need of a bit of support and help with their shopping.

In this way, Wellington Town Council are making good on their 2020 Climate Emergency declaration by providing a practical solution for those shopping in our town to reduce their carbon footprint.

During 2023, the volunteers undertook 1023 jobs, cycled 2829 miles and reduced the carbon footprint of the town by 625kg.

In the eight months since bringing NODDY into service there have been 961 jobs covering a distance of 2096 miles, almost as much as the whole of 2023!

Wellington Cycle Delivery Scheme were awarded £500 in 2024 by the local charity Transition Telford for leaflets and display panels fitted to Noddy. Our cyclist’s high-viz jackets were provided by Love Wellington.

If you would like to volunteer, please get in touch on 07398 136120 and leave a message.  Riders are covered by insurance as they are also volunteers of the Shropshire Cycle Hub – an active travel charity improving access to sustainable transport.
